Death Penalty
Attention death penalty activists
The 1,000th execution in the United States since the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976 is currently scheduled to take place in Virginia THIS WEDNESDAY (tonight at 2 AM in North Carolina).
There will be a vigil at the execution site in Jarratt (4+ hours from here) on Wednesday night. We have arranged for a bus to leave from the office at 2:15 pm this Wednesday. We will leave Jarratt by 10 pm, returning us into DC around 1 am. (Please note that the metro WILL NOT be running when we get back, so please plan accordingly!)
If you would like a spot on the bus, please let me know by NOON on TUESDAY. (We have to count our spaces - there will be 2 stops after the office: Pentagon City Metro & Fredericksburg.)
If you don't live in or near Virginia go to 1000exections.org to learn about anti-death penalty events taking place in your community. If there isn't one in your community already, start one! All you need is some candles and some friends -- if you do plan an event, be sure to tell us about it!
